Confirmed Sessions: Student & Young Alumni Engagement

The following sessions have been confirmed for the Student & Young Alumni Engagement track. Once the program has been finalized, a comprehensive schedule will be posted.

Starting and Growing a Student Philanthropy Program
The University of Texas at Austin has had varied success growing and developing student philanthropy on campus. Let us share our years of successes and failures as we changed our name from Students Hooked on Texas (SHOT) To Student Foundation, ran the first ever ContribUTe campaign, a student giving program, and implemented Senior Class Gift for the first time.
Kellie Sullivan, Assistant Director of Special Programs, The University of Texas at Austin

Life-Stage Engagement: Cub Club
Reconnect and energize alumni through this exciting program about including families in the alumni experience. Trinity University developed an innovative program to integrate the parenting experience with the campus experience for alumni, faculty and staff. Join this session to learn how to take the idea from a spark to a firework. Presenter will include planning and calendar materials, metrics for success, campus partners, sample swag items, and an in-depth discussion of how a family-centered initiative can reengage alumni and build to legacy admits.
Katie Storey, Young Alumni & Student Programs Coordinator, Trinity University

Creating a Legacy of Student Giving

Student giving is often incorporated in the form of class giving or senior gift campaigns as part of a larger umbrella of annual giving efforts. This session will outline how two similar institutions utilized different strategies to increase student giving.

How did a Tarleton State University student group become $25,000 philanthropists in 2018? Beginning with their first contribution of $2,000 in 2015, they increased their giving each year. Find out their secret to converting Homecoming T-shirts into a scholarship endowment for their peers.

Sue Goodman, Community Relations Officer, Tarleton State University

Planting the Seed: Students Educating Students on the Importance of Private Giving
The Student Advancement Team at Louisiana Tech University is a student philanthropy organization that focuses on giving back to the Louisiana Tech University Foundation. The purpose of the group is to educate other students on the importance of private giving. We host a stewardship event called Notes and Floats where students are given the opportunity to thank donors. Through this event and others, the Student Advancement Team has learned how to build successful and engaging events lead solely by students. Learn how you can strengthen or develop your student advancement programming by collaborating creatively with cross campus partners.
Madeline Patton, Student Advancement Team President, Louisiana Tech University
Joseph Bingham, Student Advancement Team Vice President, Louisiana Tech University
Madison Hoffman, Student Advancement Team Secretary, Louisiana Tech University
Katie McGowan, Director of Campus Engagement, Louisiana Tech University
Brooks Hull, Vice President of University Advancement, Louisiana Tech University
